Team Shashemene Wondo Ber

On May 10, the All Shores Wesleyan community will be participating in the Amway River Bank Run in downtown Grand Rapids to raise support for the library at the Shashemene Wondo Ber CarePoint in Ethiopia. Please join us in supporting the All Shores Wesleyan and Shashemene Wondo Ber CarePoint team!

About the Partnership

All Shores Wesleyan has partnered with Children’s HopeChest in the area of Sashemene in Ethiopia since January 2016. Shashemene is located in the Oromia region, approximately 150 miles south from the capital city, Addis Ababa. The town’s population of nearly 800,000 people is rich in diversity. Malnutrition affects a large percentage of the children in this area, causing more than 50 percent of the mortality rate among children under five years old. Increasing rates of unemployment and food price escalation contributes to nutritional insecurity in Shashemene.

Most people who live in Shashemene work hard running small street businesses or work as daily laborers. Overall, the area is dominated by low economic status households that are unable to send children to school. Moreover, poor sanitation, unclean water, overcrowded living environments, and high prevalence of HIV are some of the major challenges in this community.

With the partnership of All Shores Wesleyan Church, the children at Shashemene Wondo Ber CarePoint have the opportunity to grow physically, spiritually, and emotionally while the All Shores Wesleyan Church community also experiences positive transformation!
