Team Nabukalu
On May 10, the Friend and Boorsma Connect Community will be participating in the Amway River Bank Run in downtown Grand Rapids to raise support for the Village Savings and Lons Association (VSLA) at Nabukalu CarePoint in Uganda. Please join us in supporting Team Nabukalu!
About the Partnership
The Friend and Boorsma Connect Community has partnered with Children’s HopeChest at Nabukalu CarePoint in Uganda since September 2022. Nabukalu CarePoint is located approximately 200 km from the capital city of Uganda, Kampala. It is situated in a predominantly Muslim area and serves the children in the whole community.
Nabukalu Pentecostal Church oversees all of the activities at the CarePoint and is focused on community outreach. The church is engaged in the community through home visits and evangelism. The church and CarePoint staff also hold regular meetings with guardians, prayer meetings, discipleship, and counseling in addition to CarePoint activities. Nabukalu Pentecostal Church supports and cares for not only orphaned and vulnerable children but also the community as a whole.
With the partnership of the Friend and Boorsma Connect Community, the children at Nabukalu CarePoint have the opportunity to grow physically, spiritually, and emotionally while the Friend and Boorsma Connect Community also experiences positive transformation!

About the Project
Together we are building a community center with classrooms, a kitchen, library, larger seminar space and outdoor recreation space that will have a dual purpose. One purpose is to have a space to teach, feed and disciple the kids in the community. The second purpose will be to create a revenue generating business for the area to rent and earn money to continue the development of the kids to become leaders. There is no current rental facility in the area, so there is great potential for this Community Center to become a center point of economic opportunity.
