Team Burayu

On May 10, the Sue Dood Connect Community will be participating in the Amway River Bank Run in downtown Grand Rapids to raise support for the dairy farm project at Burayu CarePoint in Ethiopia. Please join us in supporting Team Burayu!

About the Partnership

The Sue Dood Connect Community has partnered with Children’s HopeChest in the area of Burayu, in Ethiopia since December 2013. Burayu is located on the northwest border of the capital city, Addis Ababa.

The community of Burayu is comprised of a population of approximately 205,000 individuals. The town’s main industries consist of small-scale food and oil manufacturing, as well as woodworking factories. A large percentage of the population is unemployed. Eight primary schools and one high school within the town indicate that the majority of the children do not complete their education. One of the contributing factors to children dropping out of school is that parents and guardians often cannot afford the school uniforms required by the local government for their child to attend school.

Many impoverished children in the Burayu area are vulnerable to malnourishment and often eat one meal a day. Homes are crammed full of extended family members and neighbors who are unable to support their own children.

With the partnership of the Sue Dood Connect Community, the children at Burayu CarePoint have the opportunity to grow physically, spiritually, and emotionally while the Sue Dood Connect Community also experiences positive transformation!

About the Project

We have been a CarePoint for over 11 years and the growth in those years in this community is amazing! The community has moved from surviving, to thriving, and are on the way to independent success! One way we are able to assist the community in reaching their goal of sustainable independence is through the Burayu Dairy Farm Project.
