Sustainability at HopeChest
At HopeChest, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s the heart of everything we do. For us, true sustainability means giving communities the tools, resources, and confidence they need to thrive independently, long after our work is done. We’re not about quick fixes; we’re about lasting change.
So, what makes your support through HopeChest different?
Through income-generating projects, education initiatives, and self-sustaining resources, HopeChest CarePoints are designed to provide ongoing support to the children and families they serve, long after HopeChest steps away. This intentional approach ensures that each community can sustain its own growth for generations to come.
Here’s how it works in real life…
Empowering Families in Ethiopia: Zeytuna’s Story
In Ethiopia, Zeytuna, a dedicated mother of six, faced the daily challenge of making ends meet. While her husband’s income provided some stability, it wasn’t enough to cover the growing needs of their family, from school fees to daily expenses. Zeytuna knew she had to take action to secure a better future—not just for herself, but for her children.
The turning point came when she joined a savings group at Aware CarePoint, a community-focused initiative designed to empower families with the tools to build sustainable livelihoods. Through this group, Zeytuna received economic development training, learning essential financial management skills and how to start her own small business.
With the help of a loan from the group, Zeytuna launched a vegetable-selling business. Thanks to her hard work and the ongoing support from Aware CarePoint, her business flourished. What started as a small effort to support her family has grown into a reliable source of income—one that not only sustains her household but also allows her to save for the future!

But Zeytuna’s journey is more than just about financial stability. Her children, who often help in the business, are learning valuable entrepreneurial skills that will serve them for years to come. Zeytuna’s story highlights the importance of sustainable impact—and how it can empower families to break the cycle of poverty and build a brighter future!
Today, Zeytuna is not only a successful businesswoman, but also a role model for her children and others in her community. By passing on the knowledge she gained, she’s helping to ensure that the next generation of entrepreneurs in Ethiopia has the skills they need to thrive. Her story shows that with the right support and resources, families can create lasting change—one that is not just about immediate relief, but about building a foundation for a sustainable future!
Poultry Farming in Uganda: Rose’s Journey
In Uganda, Rose was determined to break the cycle of poverty. She received training at Katuba CarePoint in poultry farming, which sparked the idea for a sustainable business. With a loan from the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA), she started raising chickens—and soon, she had a reliable income stream.
But Rose didn’t stop there. She became a mentor to other women, especially single mothers, teaching them the same skills she had learned. One of her mentees, Racheal, now runs a successful chicken farm of her own. This ripple effect of mentorship is what sustainability is all about. One person’s success can empower many.
