Change their Story 2024
Give the gift of opportunity
The year’s Change Their Story campaign is focused on providing opportunities for the youth and families in Ogoloi, Bukedea and Ongongoja to move toward their end goal of being self-sufficient. The people in these communities are excited to work hard and are so thrilled with the progress they have made over the last few years and we want to empower them with even more opportunities to provide for themselves! Each of our communities has a long term development plan and these opportunities will help them move forward in reaching their goals of independence. Please consider joining us in Changing the Stories of these communities with your generous tax-deductible donation towards the following projects!
Ongongoja Latrine Project: $10,625 Access to safe sanitation is fundamental but often overlooked need. The village of Ongongoja recently experienced a devastating flood and their pit latrines were taken out. In many rural communities across Uganda, access to proper toilets remains a luxury that many simply do not have. Lack of basic sanitation facilities like pit latrines not only affects the health and dignity of individuals but also impacts entire communities by contributing to the spread of preventable diseases, especially among children. By donating to this campaign, you will help us construct much-needed pit latrines, providing hundreds of people with a clean, safe, and hygienic place to use. These latrines will improve health outcomes, reduce waterborne illnesses, and allow the community to live with dignity. Your donation will make a significant impact. Together, we can help change their story from one of hardship and illness to one of health, dignity, and hope. UG26082102P
Bukedea Tree Planting: $5,088 The forest cover of Bukedea is generally low due to population pressures and increasing demand for forest products within the district. Farmers in Bukedea have suffered from the effects of climate change, affected crop yields and caused food insecurity in the community. Climate change effects have continued to affect livelihoods of community members further driving them into poverty. Because of that, the village of Bukedea wants to plant trees to curb effects of climate change affecting the community, use it as a revenue source in the long term and for fruit growing to serve households and open markets in the community. An estimated 7,500 tree seedlings will be procured and distributed among guardians and the general community for greater impact in the community. UG26062406P
Ogoloi Education Fund: $15,000 Education, both formal and informal, can give children under our care the knowledge, skills, and confidence to build a better future. While the government covers the cost of teachers and schools, many Ugandan schools require uniforms, scholastic materials, and other school supplies that families are responsible for providing. The financial strain of buying these supplies is often too high for the family to sustain, preventing low-income students from remaining in school. Education is a costly venture in Uganda, partly because there is no policy on tuition levied by school, each school is free to levy fees of their choice and this becomes very exploitative to the local population, especially because they have no voice to influence schools in their favor. Furthermore, the cost of education is a big obstacle to rural families, the worst hit being children from vulnerable families. This proposal is intended to request for funds to supplement the sponsorship program funds for education of youth and children in the most vulnerable situations in the CarePoint community of Ogoloi. The assumption is that these very vulnerable children will be supported with full education fees (school fees and boarding fees). UG26111401P
All funds donated through this webpage will be distributed among the projects listed above.
Any funds raised in excess of this fundraiser’s goal amount will support the ongoing education fund needs at Ogoloi, Bukedea and Ongongoja CarePoints in Uganda.
