Project Description
Program participants will consist of 14 senior-level students who are older orphaned youth from Kostroma colleges, majoring in the following fields: painting, plastering, furniture making, sewing, building, construction.
Historical Background
Jobs for Life was launched in 2010 at the Vladimir CarePoint, and since 2014 has been running on an annual basis at the Kirov CarePoint. The percent of unemployed orphaned youth in Russia remains consistently high. When people aren’t working, poverty, homelessness, debt, suicide, crime, and substance abuse increase proportionally.
A lack of pre-professional orientation, social skills, low self-esteem, and lack of discipline, among many other factors prohibit orphaned youth from finding adequate jobs. The purpose of the program is to help the participants learn the basics of finding a job and keeping it long-term.
Return on Investment Potential
The youth will receive professional services that will improve their self-esteem and confidence during job interviews and ultimately increase the chance of getting a job.
Additional Impacts
Because of the benefits the youth are receiving from this project, their confidence will be positively impacted during job interviews so that the chance for finding a job will be increased.
Volunteer and Travel Opportunities
Volunteer/travel opportunities exist for donors interested in vocational training programs and operations in a foreign context.
