Team Shone Yehiwot
On May 10, the Central Wesleyan Church community will be participating in the Amway River Bank Run in downtown Grand Rapids to raise support for the Latrine Project at Shone Yehiwot CarePoint in Ethiopia. Please join us in supporting the Team Shone Yehiwot!
About the Partnership

Central Wesleyan Church has partnered with Children’s HopeChest in the Shone area in Ethiopia since August 2024. Shone YeHiwot-Berhan CarePoint is located in the southern region of Ethiopia, approximately 170 miles from the capital city, Addis Ababa.
Shone YeHiwot-Berhan CarePoint is operated by Yehiwot Berhan Church, a local church that serves the community through intervention and development that focuses on impoverished families. Vulnerable children in the area often do not have the opportunity to attend school, and both daily meals and access to medical care are hard to come by. A number of families among the Shone community are small-scale farmers, utterly dependent on the weather and the amount of rainfall each year. This common practice in rural Ethiopia often leads the family unit to live “hand-to-mouth.”
Despite these hurdles, there is hope. Shone YeHiwot-Berhan CarePoint operates as a drop-in center, a safe place where children can come for care and support. With the partnership of Central Wesleyan Church, the children at Shone YeHiwot-Berhan CarePoint have the opportunity to grow physically, spiritually, and emotionally while the Central Wesleyan Church community also experiences positive transformation!

About the Project

The area around Shone Yehiwot CarePoint has little to no sanitary infrastructure, increasing the risk of disease transmission within the community, especially among children. Preventing these health risks without proper facilities is costly for the CarePoint. Installing a latrine will significantly improve sanitation, help reduce health problems and improve quality of life in the community.
