About Us

Children’s HopeChest exists to glorify God by releasing the potential of orphaned and vulnerable children and their communities through partnerships that cultivate holistic transformation and sustainability.

History

Children’s HopeChest was founded in 1994 in response to the devastating need of orphans in Russia following the fall of the Iron Curtain. These children had serious basic needs for clothing, food, medical attention and facilities, but more compelling was their need for love, human interaction and care, and future hope.

In response, Children’s HopeChest developed a holistic approach, which helps meet medical, physical, educational, emotional, and spiritual needs of orphaned children and youth, in fulfillment of our mission.

In late 2006, CHC leadership felt God calling them to expand our ministry to orphaned and vulnerable children. In 2007, after much prayer and deliberation, CHC partnered with Adventures in Missions and their indigenous staff to begin working in Swaziland.

Due to the increasing awareness of the complex barriers faced by orphaned and vulnerable children in Africa, CHC launched ministry in Uganda and Ethiopia in 2009 with our own indigenous staff. Currently, CHC maintains our own NGO status in both Uganda and Ethiopia.

In 2010, further opportunities allowed for CHC to begin partnering with on-the-ground ministry partners in Haiti, Moldova, India, South Africa, and Guatemala.

Children’s HopeChest currently has active partnerships in Russia, Swaziland, Ethiopia, Uganda, Haiti, Guatemala, Moldova, India, and the United States.

Mission: Why are we here?

Children’s HopeChest exists to glorify God by releasing the potential of orphaned and vulnerable children and their communities through partnerships that cultivate holistic transformation and sustainability.

Purpose: What do we do?

Children’s HopeChest engages churches and other Christian communities in long-term partnerships that:

  • Empower local leaders to share the Gospel, reduce poverty, and create self-sufficiency for every child.
  • Equip partnering communities to directly engage as a communityin healthy international development practices.
  • Address the complex causes of poverty, including material, spiritual, emotional, social, economic, and educational needs.
  • Tend to the child’s holistic needs for survival, community, education, and employment.
  • Transform the lives of children through a focus on sustainability, independence, and long-term self-sufficiency.
  • Transform the lives of the partnering community members through exposure, education, relationship, and service.

Who We Work With

Children’s HopeChest partners primarily with churches, but also businesses and other Christian communities including online groups, book clubs, bloggers and other small groups. These varying sponsoring communities form deep, meaningful relationships with the orphaned and vulnerable children we serve, which in turn helps give them positive self-worth and hope for the future. Currently, more than 10,000 orphaned and vulnerable children all over the world are in relationship with sponsors in North America and Canada.

What We Believe

Children’s HopeChest was founded as and remains to this day an evangelical Christian organization. Our statement of faith affirms our core beliefs and doctrine. In practice, we believe strongly in putting our faith into action as an expression of our faith in Jesus Christ. We feel called to demonstrate the power of the gospel by meeting earthly needs within a spiritual context and for an evangelical purpose. We believe in hands-on, demonstrative, purposeful faith—the kind of faith Jesus himself demonstrated, and it is our heart to be Jesus in the flesh to every orphaned and vulnerable child we serve, and in doing so, help them fulfill the purpose God has for their lives in this world, and in the world to come.

Child Protection And Safety

Children’s HopeChest is committed to the care of children and believes that each child is a special creation, made in the image of God. We are emphatically opposed to any form of child abuse, exploitation, or oppression, and will strive to do everything possible to prevent such injustice. In turn, we have instituted certain policies and guidelines that are meant to govern the interactions of Children’s HopeChest staff members, contractors, partners, sponsors, and any others involved with children in our programs and the surrounding communities.
